Why do some people seem to have it all, while others struggle and hide in the shadows? It’s not that successful people are “better” than anyone else – they also had to acquire their knowledge, skills and resources. The difference between the successful and the people who live in the shadows lies in their attitude. The ones who have it all are confident that if they take the time to learn a skill or acquire knowledge, they will be capable of achieving any goal. They believe that their goals and desires are good and that they themselves are worthy of those goals. They have the attitude of success.
Success doesn’t take “I can’t” for an answer.
What Causes Low Self-Confidence?
Self-confidence is essential to a happy and fulfilled life. Without self confidence, we naturally want to hide and live our lives unnoticed. Imagine if Steve Jobs didn’t have confidence. Each and every one of us has the chance to do something meaningful. There are no favorites; people from all walks of life, all levels of education who choose the attitude of “yes, I can” – DO.
Self-esteem begins eroding pretty much from the day we’re born, as people don’t respond to our needs, or put us down – but it is our own interpretation of events that creates low self-esteem and self-confidence! There is an event; and there is our interpretation of the event. For example, if our parents don’t have time to play with us, we may develop a belief that we’re not worthy of their time. Then if a friend says they can’t play because they’re busy, the belief is reinforced…if this happens enough times, the belief becomes firmly entrenched in our psyche.
You can change that negative self programming!
How would you like to be able to walk to a crowded room and own it – poised, confident, and radiating personal power? Or take on any goal, no matter how overwhelming – with enthusiasm and absolute belief in yourself? If these traits are missing in you now, then you are not living up to your true potential. Self-confidence (belief in your abilities – relatively easy to change) and self-esteem (belief in your worth – relatively difficult to change) can be elusive, but given the right tools, you can build these essential success traits. You owe it to yourself to do this – you ARE worthy! You CAN do it! To shine, to really become who you are capable of becoming, cultivate your self-confidence. Come out of the shadows.

The Power of Positive Thinking
The Silva Method teaches the power of positive thinking as the first step to increasing your belief in yourself. Daily affirmations said in the Alpha brainwave state are one of the key methods… because they work. This isn’t some new-age spiritual la-la stuff. Scientists have proven that daily repetition of a thought will rewire the brain’s neural pathways associated with that thought sometime between 30-90 days (depending on the individual and the amount of internal resistance to the thought).
For example – if you are telling yourself “people don’t listen to me,” then that belief is creating certain actions which cause inevitable results… which validate the belief. You may avoid interacting with people, never voice your opinion, or never stand up for yourself and defend your position in a debate. Those actions lead to – “nobody listens to me!” But if you change the thought, eventually that new thought will become accepted into your subconscious, and it will automatically generate the types of actions that lead to desired results. If you change your thought to “people respect what I have to say” (and repeat this affirmation, several times a day, every day for one to three months) then you will begin interacting with people, voicing your opinions and defending your position.
Affirmations are most effective when said in the Alpha brainwave state, which is the state of relaxed alertness, mental clarity and far less negativity than the Beta brainwave state of normal waking hours. As you change your thought patterns and alter your beliefs, keep these things in mind:
1. Say your affirmations in the present tense, “I AM.”
2. Say your affirmations with heartfelt emotion that radiates self-love.
The practice of affirmations eventually changes the way you perceive yourself. If you agree with the hurtful things that caused your low self-confidence in the first place, you perceive yourself as a “loser”, “incapable” or “not worthy.” Change your perspective! Learn to see yourself through the eyes of possibility… the eyes of potential…the eyes of self-love!
Mastery of the Mind
All of the Silva Method exercises ultimately teach you mastery of the mind. This is the secret to self-confidence. All of the exercises are designed to teach you to control your thoughts and emotions; your actions and results will follow!
The Silva Method teaches you to become aware of your inner speech and to use thought control to start telling a new story about yourself. How do you talk about yourself, to yourself (and to others)? Monitoring your inner speech is easy during meditation when you have no distractions and you can just listen to the things you say about yourself and the world. Once you’re aware of your habitual negativity, you’ll learn to immediately and resolutely change every negative thought about yourself to a positive thought. This takes practice, and the more time you spend at the Alpha level reprogramming your beliefs about yourself, the faster your transformation will be.
The world WANTS you to succeed. The world NEEDS you to step out of the shadows and express yourself.
Reprogram your mind to perceive yourself as the worthy, capable person you are! For help in designing affirmations and learning how to get into the Alpha brainwave state, you don’t need to look any further than the Silva Life System!
