If you heard it said there is a rhythm to life, those words would probably sound familiar to you. What is this rhythm, and how can you move to it? Is there even really such a thing? Everyone must answer this question for themselves and in their own way, but we can tell you about something amazing many refer to as the “alpha sound.”

The alpha sound is the rhythm of the mind in its alpha state. A state attained through meditation, or in the midst of a sleep cycle called REM, or rapid eye movement. In rapid eye movement, the mind is dreaming and the dreamer is creating and living an experience. Thoughts in the mind are also being generated more slowly, at about 7 to 14 cycles per second, or about 7.8 hertz.

Amazingly, 7.8 hertz is the exact frequency of the Earth’s magnetic field. This means your brain and the earth are operating on the same frequency, or, dancing to the same rhythm. How is this different from when you are awake?

Well, when awake and not meditating, the brain generates thoughts at between 14 and 21 cycles per second. Faster than when it is in the alpha state. While this may seem like it is useful for reacting and thinking, all of these thoughts actually clog the brain up. As the brain jumps from point to po

int like a frightened monkey, you, the person, become distracted, restless, and less apt to think straight and react appropriately. You are out of sync with the world.

The great news is that the alpha mind level can be reached at any time while you are awake, and can help you train yourself to fall into harmony with the world around you. Not only can you control your own mind and help create your own world, you can feel more relaxed and happy all the time. All it takes is practice.

By being able to slip into the alpha sound any time you want, you will be surprised how much easier daily tasks, learning, and interacting with others becomes. The mind, in its alpha state, is creative, quick , and absorbent. It is also very much in touch with the universe. This is what is meant by the alpha sound.

Your contact with the alpha sound begins when you start meditating. Try to slow your mind, body and breath down, and keep them deep and slow for as long as possible. Spread the space between the eyes and turn the mouth up slightly. Close the eyes, roll them up gently and count down from five. Get used to feeling the alpha state, and spend as much time there as possible. Call on this state before going to work, to school, or to meetings.

The longer you spend in the alpha state and the more often you visit it, the easier and more accessible it will become to you. Your feelings of well-being will increase and you will be more relaxed in all situations. You will also have the mental awareness you need to meet challenges and take advantage of opportunities. Your mind will be clear and you will be dancing to the rhythm of the universe.
